Responsible Tourism Showcase Award Guidelines & Application

The Educational Travel Community's Responsible Tourism Showcase Award is open to all ETC members to nominate a project or program that meets the established criteria and guidelines below. ETC’s Responsible Tourism Committee and Executive Advisory Council serve as the selection committee. The award benefits are listed below.

Please be advised that ETC retains the right to publish, in print and online, all materials submitted as part of the Responsible Tourism Honoree application. Cash recognition gifts are disbursed to the project and/or communities instituting responsible tourism initiatives and are intended to help enhance the project in some way. Applications are due by August 15, 2016.

Submission Requirements:

1) Ensure that the nomination meets the pre-requisite guidelines specified below.
2) Preview the application questions so you know what information to gather.
3) Complete the Responsible Tourism Showcase Application online.
4) After your application is complete, e-mail the following supporting materials to media@travelearning.com with "RT" and your project's title in the subject line:
  • A photo or headshot of the principal of the project (high resolution, 300 dpi minimum). Please provide complete name and title as a caption.

  • Four project photos (high resolution, 300 dpi minimum).  Please provide identifying captions along with the photos.  These photos may be published on the ETC website as well as in the Conference Resource Directory provided to paid attendees at the ETC Conference.  If any release forms are required for publication, please submit authorization in writing at time of submission.

  • A video of the project. The film clip, 3 minute maximum, should be in Quicktime—preferably Apple ProRes 720p (24fps), H.264, and data rate of around 8-10 mbits/sec.  The video may be shown at the ETC Conference via a projector from a laptop.  Voice-overs and/or music should be recorded in a soundproof room.

All project applications are evaluated on their strength in meeting the following award criteria:

  • Generating greater economic benefits for local communities while minimizing negative economic, environmental, and social impact.
  • Providing enjoyable and educational experiences for visitors that engender respect between them and the natural and cultural environments.
